Maui IS the Home of these magnificent creatures! At least for the part of the year when the babies are being born. They travel here to give birth in the warm Maui waters and then when the babies are big enough - they head all the way back to Alaska. The Mom's don't eat the entire time they are here and pretty much do nothing but take care of the babies and deal with the males who insist on showing off for them and trying to win their affection. I have been going with the Safari Whale Watch which has a booth at the wharf. It is the fastest boat in Lahaina and can get to where the action is quickly. I love that it is a smaller boat, so you are not stuck at the rail with 100 other camera snapping enthusiasts! Whale season is generally early spring - February through April or so. It's a MUST SEE if you are lucky enough to be in Maui in that time frame.

Just your average flora? NEVER! Plumeria, hibiscus and more..... everywhere you look! We're talking the yard, just outside your door, next to the road, in front of the stores - THESE, are just a few of the things of paradise. NOT in a florist shop, they're right there - for you to smell and see and enjoy! Beats the heck out of the wimpy begonias in my yard, or the snow laden trees in yours!!

ABOUT A TWO MINUTE WALK FROM YOUR DOOR, YOU FIND YOURSELF AT THE OCEAN FRONT POOL AT PUAMANA. IT'S USUALLY QUIET, YOU CAN SIT, SIP AND FIND SOLACE IN THE FACT THAT YOU ARE AWAY FROM THE CRUSH OF YOUR NORMAL LIFE (NO MATTER HOW HAPPY YOU ARE!) AND LET THE OCEAN SOUNDS SOOTH THE WILD BEAST IN YOU - AS YOU WATCH THE SUN SLIP QUIETLY BEHIND THE ISLAND OF LANAI, AND INTO THE OCEAN. MARKING ANTHER DAY IN PARADISE AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO REFLECT ON HOW YOU COULD BE SO VERY LUCKY! NOW - WHAT ABOUT TOMORROW?

A POOL WITH A VIEW! NO NEED TO BE AT A CROWDED POOL, FAR REMOVED FROM THE OCEAN. . . WITH A TOURIST EVERY 5 FEET!! SPREAD OUT, LAY BACK, TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND RELAX. IT'S A FOREIGN CONCEPT, BUT - YOU CAN DO IT!

OK. How DO pineapples grow??? Now there is a great triva question! Someone I know (who shall remain nameless), but is generally a VERY smart cookie, thought that pineapples grow under ground! Wow - imagine that person's amazement when they were shown that, they grow on a bush! It almost looks like the local grocer, just glued a picture perfect, ready-to-eat pineapple, right off the shelf, onto this pointy, sharp, yet unremarkable bush! WHO KNEW? I did - that's who!!
